Biography
Dr. Fareed Hanna Abdul Ahad Rofoo is a distinguished academic and anatomist with a long and illustrious career at Hawler Medical University (HMU). Born in Erbil-Ankawa, Iraq, he has been a dedicated member of the university's faculty since 1986.
Dr. Rofoo earned his M.B.Ch.B. from the College of Medicine in Baghdad in 1977 and subsequently completed his M.Sc. in Medicine from Mosul University in 1986. He specialized in Anatomy, with a subspecialty in Histology, and has held the academic rank of Assistant Professor since the year 2000.
Dr. Rofoo has served HMU in several high-level administrative capacities, demonstrating significant leadership. His roles include:
Head of the Department of Anatomy and Histology (1996-2004)
Dean of the College of Dentistry (2004-2005)
Vice President for Administration (2005-2008)
Vice President for Scientific Affairs (2008-2017)
In these positions, he was instrumental in shaping the university's academic and administrative policies.
With over three decades of teaching experience, Dr. Rofoo has taught Anatomy, Histology, and Embryology to a wide range of students. His instruction has spanned undergraduate programs in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy, as well as postgraduate students pursuing M.Sc. degrees in various surgical and medical specialties. He has also supervised numerous M.Sc. students to completion, guiding research on topics ranging from the effects of electromagnetic fields on biological tissues to ultrasonographic measurements in the local population.
Dr. Rofoo's research interests include the immune system and chronological changes in anatomy. He has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals such as the Zanco Journal for Medical Science and the Middle East Journal of Family Medicine. His scholarly work reflects a consistent focus on both basic science and clinically applied anatomical research.
Committed to continuous improvement in higher education, Dr. Rofoo has participated in numerous international training courses and workshops in countries including Germany, the UK, and Jordan, focusing on areas such as medical education, curriculum development, and quality assurance. He has also been an active participant in international scientific conferences, particularly the Asian-Pacific International Conference of Anatomists.
His extensive service includes membership on high-level committees for the Ministry of Higher Education, leadership in scientific conferences at HMU, and editorial roles for the Zanco Journal for Medical Sciences.
